NSW Digital Design System

Transitioning to the public sector and stepping into a Senior UX/UI designer in a design system role has allowed me to apply the skills and knowledge gained from working in the private sector - where I had the opportunity to work both as an experience designer and front-end engineer.

Part of an enterprise-level SCRUM agile group, our Tech-Enablement team consists of a product owner, delivery manager, a developer, and myself as the UX/UI designer. We build, support, and maintain the essential building blocks that make up over one hundred NSW government websites. Every minor change has a significant impact, with each design decision being crucial and potentially affecting millions of people.

Even though product design remains at the heart of everything, there is a greater emphasis on long term outcomes and prioritising opportunities as opposed to delivering outputs - everything operates at a higher level of abstraction focusing on reusable bite size chunks.

Digital NSW website

Beyond the design system, I lead UX/UI initiatives for the Digital NSW website, serving seven government branches. I work with a team of content, graphic, and strategy designers. My job is to understand a combination of stakeholder outcomes, user needs and context and leverage our design system to present information in digestible chunks that guide users naturally through their journey.
